⚠️ Incident Management
Plas Heli maintains a clear and structured process for reporting, recording, and reviewing incidents, accidents, and near‑misses. This ensures compliance with statutory requirements, supports continuous improvement, and provides organisers and volunteers with confidence in our operational standards.
Immediate Actions
When an incident occurs, the following steps must be taken:
- Ensure safety first — protect the injured person and prevent further harm.
- Notify the Duty Manager or Event Safety Officer immediately.
- Record essential details — time, location, people involved, and nature of the incident.
- Preserve the scene if required for investigation.
- Call emergency services if necessary.
Reporting Requirements
All incidents, injuries, and near‑misses must be formally recorded in the Plas Heli Online Accident Book. This includes:
- Medical incidents
- Equipment failures
- Slips, trips, and falls
- Collisions or impacts
- Any occurrence that could have resulted in harm
Accurate reporting ensures compliance with statutory obligations and supports post‑event review.
Near‑Miss Reporting (Critical for Prevention)
A near‑miss is any incident that could have resulted in injury or damage but did not. These events are extremely valuable for improving safety and preventing future harm.
Examples include:
- Slips or trips where no injury occurred
- Equipment failures caught before use
- Close calls on the water
- Unsafe behaviour observed
- Hazards identified during event operations
All near‑misses must be logged in the Online Accident Book. Recording them helps Plas Heli:
- Identify emerging risks
- Improve operational procedures
- Strengthen volunteer and competitor safety
- Support insurance and compliance requirements
